2008 Kawasaki

introduced the current KLX 250
2009 it was on the market worldwide. Already at this time there were two version available. On the one hand the version with carburetor and on the other hand the version with fuel injection. Until today both versions are on sale, depending on which one is distributed by the importer.

Since 2021 with 300cc fuel injection only, a new version with more capacity exists, which differs only in details from the 250.

Most common model
is the Dualsport KLX with 21/18“ wheels. The KLX is and was also available as a Supermoto with 17“ wheels and the designation KLX 250 SF or V also known as D-Tracker - especially in SE-Asia. So in summary there are 4 different 250´s on the market. 21/18“ carburetor or DFI and 17" carburetor or DFI.

The designation
has always been a source of confusion. If it was called here and there only KLX 250 is it in other countries the KLX 250 S. But both names refer to the 250 KLX built since 2008. A large amount of spare parts and accessories fit on all variants because the KLX is built more or less unchanged. Parts such as oil filter, levers, fairings, air filter, footrest and many more are absolutely identical. Also a luggage rack, an engine guard or a tail tidy fits on all motorcycles built since 2008 no matter if 250 or 300cc, carburetor or DFI.

It is different with the engine
For the DFI version among other things a fuel pump is installed in the tank, an FI throttle body, the wiring harness or even the throttle cable differ from the version with carburetor to mention only a couple.

At the suspension
brakes or frame there is also no difference even if some magazines have described this differently at a relaunch of the 250 in 2018. Only the Dualsport and Supermoto versions have always differed in brakes and suspension. Of course, the KLX has been further developed to a small extent, but mainly to further reduce manufacturing costs, and not necessarily to get even better performance.

Countless color variants
are and were available, mostly a mix of green, black and white with always new graphics. But it has also been offered in partly blue, orange, red or as Final Edition. In 2018 a camouflage version came to market.

Final production takes place in Thailand at Kawasaki Motors Enterprise (Thailand) Co., Ltd.
