First time right hand on full throttle

In the mid 80´s the time had finally come. With an HMW 50 - a moped with pedals and 2 speed handshift, a dripping petrol tap and not even 3hp I was caught up in the passion for motorbikes at the age of 12.

Four years later finally on the road

My first motorbike or actually a scooter - a Vespa 50 Special. But as it is with 50cc it didn't go well for long and the tuning began. Bigger cylinder, carburetor, sports exhaust. There were setbacks, parts broke and from today's perspective a lot of money was spent. But experience makes you wise. One year later the first race. Two more years of Vespa racing followed.

Not yet 20 years old - MX bikes

In the meantime I already had a driving licence and a more legal engine capacity, but was still riding a Vespa. Together with a friend we bought two old KTM´s - a 500cc 4 speed air-cooled and a 250cc still with drum brake at the rear.

Formative years

Mick Doohan, Max Biaggi and Playstation1 are to blame. As I wrote at the beginning it started with 50cc 2-stroke, 10 years later finally the holy grail of engines. V4 500cc 2-stroke. The Yamaha RD500 was the choice and off it went to the GP track in Brno/CZ at a track day. Sold the Yamaha and started the 1998 national championship on a Suzuki RGV 250. Class change to 125cc in the 2 following years. Dune riding for the first time in Morocco on a Kawasaki KX 500.

Not a chance

Road races were finished and it was on to Supermoto. I wasn't doing too badly in the hobby class, but when I tackled the national championship points were the absolute exception. Maybe it was because I was riding a KTM 380 and not a 4-stroke as was common at that time or maybe it was just a lack of talent.

Sad realisations

The first 4-stroke, a KTM SX250F dirtbike and suddenly everything went easier, lighter, faster and longer. The questions that arose were simply the following. Was I (almost) always overpowered until now and what if I had started with weaker bikes. I could have become world champion...for sure.

A new adventure takes its beginning

End of the 00 years still on MX tracks off to Morocco on a KTM 640 Adventure. My first long distance riding. A new passion was found. Then on a vacation in Thailand I met the Kawasaki KLX 250 and everything came together.
