Unfortunately, I can't tell you your correct final ratio. But I can give you some help to make a decision.
The original
final gear ratio for the Dualsport is 14/42 - this gives a ratio of 3.000. For the Supermoto - D-Tracker it is 14/39 - 2.786 - so already significantly and noticeably longer.
Many KLX riders mount a smaller sprocket on the transmission output shaft - a 13T sprocket. This makes the individual gears shorter which is especially good for singletrail riding and enduro use. It is the cheapest way to change the gear ratio, because the front sprocket does not cost even 20 bugs.
The own weight and whether with much luggage or often with a pillion is ridden should also be considered when choosing the gear ratio. Useing the KLX as a tourer in my opinion the transmission can remain quite original.
My ADVENTURE KLX 250
is even longer geared, namely 15/42. This corresponds approximately to the original gear ratio of the 17" Supermoto.
Unfortunately I have to do some paved roads before offroad riding is possible. To move the engine thereby not always in the increased speed range I choose the longer transmission. With appropriate riding skills, possibly sometimes with the help of the clutch, more technical passages can be mastered as well, - it is also allowed to ride in first gear. In city traffic I find it not so uncomfortable, because I can stay longer in one gear without having to give "too much" gas to get a little faster. Works great for rolling along in flowing traffic.
Larger sprockets
have a better rolling function for the individual chain links of the chain because the diameter of the sprockets is just larger. Also the chain slider is less worn because the chain touches it less. More teeth on the sprockets also results in longer lifespan - for both the chain and the sprockets.
Probably more important is that the chain is cleaned, well lubricated and properly tensioned to get the longest possible service life. The power loss on a good chain is very generally written at ~6-9% while a bad chain can easily eat up 15% and more of the engine's power.
A disadvantage
of larger sprockets is the extra weight, both of the individual sprockets but also the chain must be a few links longer to fit. All this raised the weight - and on top of that, it's unsprung mass.
The original Dualsport chain has 106 links, on the SM it´s 104.
In the list
you see that by different combination of the sprockets quite the same final ratio is achieved.
On the left the gear ratios with the same front sprocket and colored the original rear sprocket.
On the right side is the effective final gear ratio sorted in descending order and also in color the ratios with OE parts. The smaller the value, the longer the final gear ratio.
